CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

THE VETERINARY ORTHOPEDIC SOCIETY'S 2009 ANNUAL CONFERENCE
February 28-March 7, 2009 Steamboat Springs, Colorado

We invite practitioners, academicians, and researchers interested in large animals, small animals, and exotic species to submit abstracts of practical and scientific topics related to veterinary orthopedics. All papers should be clinically oriented and the presentation should emphasize clinical applicability. Papers addressing results of controlled retrospective and prospective clinical studies, or innovative surgical techniques are encouraged. Case reports describing unusual or difficult cases are also encouraged. Presentations will be 10 minutes long followed by 5 minutes of discussion.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION CLOSED

The deadlines to enter new abstracts and to edit existing abstracts have been reached.

Notes From the Program Chair:

  1. In order to speed the process of abstract submission and, at the same time, allow papers to be selected on merit (i.e., based on the quality of the abstract submitted) there will be a single call for papers for which a final, completed abstract may be submitted. NO subsequent changes to the abstract will be considered or accepted for publication in the proceedings. Please not that ONLY submissions that include BOTH the long and short versions of the abstract FORMATTED CORRECTLY, will be considered for acceptance. Specific instructions follow below.
  2. The Mark S. Bloomberg Memorial Resident Research Award sponsored by the VOS was established to recognize outstanding abstract submissions by residents to the scientific program. A minimum of three awards ($1500) will be made to be used to offset the expense to attend and present an abstract at our annual meeting. Individuals currently in residency training programs or within 2 years of completion of formal residency programs are eligible. The abstract submission must relate to studies conducted during the residency program. All abstracts submitted for consideration of this award must indicate this clearly on the title step of the submission process.

Abstract Submission Instructions:

Podium presentations at the Conference: Power Point (one screen projection) will be the only presentation medium at the Conference. If any other audiovisual aide is required please inform the program chair(s) at least 30 days in advance. ALL presentations will use the VOS computer designated for this purpose. ALL presentation files MUST be loaded on the designated computer at least one session prior to scheduled presentations. Failure to do so will result in elimination of the presentation from the Conference. ALL presentations will be limited to a maximum of 10 minutes in length. Moderators will strictly enforce the 10-minute time limit by asking you to end the presentation after 10 minutes and moving into the question/discussion period.

Poster presentations at the Conference: A 3' tall x 5' wide area will be provided for each accepted poster at the Conference. Poster presenters are responsible for bringing materials (push pins, tape, etc.) required for mounting the posters for display. The posters should be displayed Sunday-Thursday morning at the Conference. In addition, a session will be dedicated to Poster presentations at a time and format to be determined by the Scientific Program Chairs. Poster presenters will be informed of the time and format well in advance of the Conference.

Moderators: A moderator for each session will be present during the presentations for the purpose of accommodating the speaker and directing the discussion and stimulating audience participation immediately following each paper (a cornerstone of this meeting!). The moderators will be identified in the final program. Each speaker should introduce him/herself to the moderator well in advance of the presentation and notify them of any changes in the title. Moderators are responsible for speaker familiarity with audio and visual aids provided at the lectern. Additionally, moderators are responsible for strict adherence of the speakers to time constraints of the program.
